Grateful Today

I'm feeling exceptionally grateful today. Here's what all I am thankful for.

1. Rain. I know this sounds silly, but you have no idea how important the rain is until you move here. When we moved here everyone warned us we would hate the weather, that we wouldn't be able to stand the heat and humidity. And after a few summers my hubby and I have decided that it is more pleasant temperature-wise here than it was in City We Lived in Before We Moved to New Orleans (which was filled with horrible, dry, breezeless Texas-style heat). Here it rains every afternoon, which cools everything (and by cool, I mean drops the temperature back to the low 90s). Sure the streets flood if it rains too long, but at least it's cooler. Coupled with the nice breezes we get off the lake, and one might be tempted to call it pleasant.

2. My hubby is finally getting a raise! It's been 2 years in the making. I've had to deal with some bitterness because the school has raised our rent twice and gone up on tuition to cover their costs but didn't give their employees a raise. Starting today, they get 3%, which isn't a whole lot, but it's more than what we had. Thank you Lord!

3. Despite my having to work to help pay bills, I still get to spend all day with my daughter. Sure there are days when I want to tear my hair out strand by strand, but those are few and far between. I'm so blessed I can be with her every single day.

4. It's Friday! For the first time in I can't remember when, I have no commitments this weekend. My hubby has a photo shoot in the morning and some video work to do for the church tomorrow afternoon, so Princess & I have a day to ourselves. I think we might head over to the farmer's market and grab lunch with an old friend who moved way down to Port Sulphur last year. Or we might spend all day in our PJs. Either option, I can't wait!
