Clean or Vain? You Make the Call

So thanks to Ike rolling his way in last night, our power got knocked out in the middle of the night. I, of course because I'm getting old older, could not go back to sleep after we heard the transformer blow. So due to lack of sleep, I'm not responsible for any poor grammar or misspellings in this post.

The huge decision came this morning as I showered by the light of a flashlight: wash the hair or to not wash the hair?

Now I know there are some women who are blessed with such beautiful, amazing, thick gorgeous hair that they don't have to wash their hair everyday, and their hair even looks better after going a day or two without washing it.

I am not one of those women.

I've been told I have "good" hair (I think my stylist is just trying to be nice to me), but I have the baby-fine, straight-as-a-board hair. When I went to proms back in the 90's when the little ringlets by your face were all the rage, my mom would curl the ringlets as we were walking out the door. By the time we arrived at the dance, I had nothing but straight wisps hanging beside my face. And it only took about 15 minutes to get from my parents' house to the dance.

I promise I'm not exaggerating.

Over the years I've gotten older and found some really awesome products to give me a little substance and lift to all my layers (oh yes, the layers are a necessity).

So this morning I was forced to decide: don't wash my hair and have a little volume and a small remainder of style from yesterday, or wash my hair with NO BLOW DRYER and walk around looking like a rat that had drowned and then said rat's hair dried flat to her head?

I chose vanity. I know, pathetic.

What makes it worse is my husband noticed. You know how men aren't supposed to pick up on these things? Well, he did. By saying, "I can tell you haven't washed your hair today."

Thankfully he covered for himself exceptionally ('cause he could tell I was on the verge of tears) by following that with, "Your hair looks absolutely perfect and gorgeous every other day - that's the only reason I knew."

I know, he is amazing. And yes, he has a brother (but he's young and seeing someone).

(I'm just thankful he didn't compare the grubby little ponytail I'm trying to pull off today to a barber's brush attached to the back of my skull.)

So I'm just curious, what do you ladies choose in times of natural disaster (hurricanes and/or hair)? Do you sacrifice style for cleanliness or do you choose whatever vestiges of beauty you can retain from the previous day?

Also, because I can't quite shake the 7th grade need for popularity and everyone else is doing this too (conformist!)... see the little "Follow" icon on my sidebar? If you've been stopping by and like what you read, follow me, please! I love all my bloggy friends and I'd love to have your pic on my sidebar!

I'm like you, I have to wash my hair everyday because it's fine, but now it's wavy (frizzy!) from having babies. I would still wash it even without power. It gets too greasy (t.m.i., I know).

I live in ponytails. It's sad.

I'm following you. How did you set that up? Not that anyone would want to follow me:)

I guess I'm one of the lucky people, I wash my hair every other day, but if I have to go that 3rd day, I just put it in a pony tail, or use a head band.

I choose style over cleanliness any day ;)

No electricity? Style over cleanliness!

No contest - cleanliness is definitely overrated! A girl's got to be prepared in case someone with a TV camera shows up!

Definitely style, but you could always just do a ponytail. That's what I do when my hair's dirty anyway. One day is good hair, the next ponytail.

I also have fine hair so I feel your pain.

Personaly]ly, I choose cleanliness. I just shower, wash my hair, and throw on a base ball cap...while my hair is still wet even. ***gasp***

I cannot stand it if I haven't washed my hair...no.can.do!!!

I have to wash my hair everyday too. My best friend could go DAYS and each day it looks even better. She knows I am secretly envious of it.

How about a pony tail or a high bun. That's what I do when I need to choose something else over beauty (which I often do).

Hope the storm hasn't hit too bad.

I have very curly hair and usually have to wash it every day. However, this summer I went to Romania and the only showers we had were at night (40 degrees) with no hot water.....vanity went out the door and the bandana came out!!!

Since my hair is like less than an inch long on top, I don't think I'm qualified to comment-- I mean, I can go for a couple of days without washing it (but I usually don't, except for Saturdays...)
