I'd Be Kvelling if It Weren't for a Rant

Due to my nasty, phlegm-y, energy-sapping sinus infection, I didn't blog all weekend (didn't matter, because our internet was down all weekend anyway).

And apparently, it was because I needed to have a rant fresh for Monday.

I tweeted the other day about our getting a Mac here at the church. *insert over-the-top happy dance* We got a great deal on a 20" (all we need, folks, trying to be good stewards here) with a wireless mouse and keyboard, plus a printer.

One of the things I had done when I wrote up the proposal for the board was to get a list of all the software we would have to replace, since pretty much all our software save Quicken (I heart you, Quicken) was not Mac-compatible.

However, when I ordered our computer from one of my favorite Mac discount retailers, it came with a sweet little program called Parallels. Parallels basically takes any program you are currently running on a PC and sets it to where you can run it on the Mac. Genius!

And the best part is, with the rebate it's free! Score!! This is was going to save us about $300 in extra software expenses.

So today I decided to go rummaging for our old installation discs, because I know I am going to need them to install on the new computers. And I found them all, except one.

Our contribution software.

The disk is nowhere to be found.

The lady who did my job before me, bless her heart, was a very, very sweet woman. However, she did not possess the qualities most needed in a secretary who manages lots of records (i.e. obsessive-compulsive uber-organized control freak, like myself).

For example, she didn't balance the checkbook for the three years she worked here. She also lost the bank statements and the checkbook stubs from those 3 years. It took me 3 months to sort out the mess and get it balanced, and when I finally did the difference was around $3,000 (thankfully in our favor).

She lost several counseling records.

And Sunday school records.

The list goes on.

And it's not because she's a bad person or anything, she just didn't have the personality type to think about saving things and making backup copies.

So needless to say I've had lots of situations where I've just shaken my head and said there's nothing I can do, because I have nothing to work with. Seriously, she lost more of our records than Katrina.

So imagine my surprise (sarcasm) when I discovered that the contribution software was purchased while she was here.

And now there is no installation disc.

I called the company and they said our version is old enough that they don't make installation discs for it anymore, but perhaps I should check ebay. I did, and copies there are running $50 a pop.

Well, if I'm going to pay $50 for a 5 year old version I might as well pay $250 for the new version, right?

I'm a little frustrated.

But I'm praying that God will make that disc turn up (if it didn't disappear in the storm or by her hands, that is), and if not for wisdom on what we should do for contribution software.

But something did brighten my day!

Mama Belle gave me an award!

I've posted before about how awesome I think Mama Belle is. My opinion hasn't changed. She totally deserves this, and I am super-thankful she's my bloggy friend!

So now I get to pass it on to my bloggy friends. In no particular order, here are some ladies whose blogs I heart so, so much:
So, that makes up for missing installation discs, right?

Hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

Well thank you! And I hope you still love me after I tell you that I would be the secretary like the previous secretary :) Good thing I'm not the secretary ;)

First, what is kvelling? I am out of the loop on that one. Or just a total dork.

Second, thank you so much for the award. It really brightens my day today! In one word, I am overwhelmed, BIG time.

We are getting a mac soon, so we'll be calling you! You definitely have the hook up.

Ok, can I just confess that I broke out in a cold sweat when you were describing the situation with your books? Oh my. I LOVE record keeping, Quickbooks, spreadsheets, taxes, all of that stuff, and to think that you are missing so much from that time when she was there...oh boy. I feel for you. :)
